Identifying Local Sensitivities
Integrating local knowledge in spill response planning is a key component of our response readiness regime. By providing invaluable information during the planning and preparedness process, local subject-matter experts and organizations support responders in identifying coastal sensitivities.
Who Can Help?
Each spill is unique and the expertise required to support response operations can vary considerably.
Responders typically work with coastal/marine science experts who have local knowledge of at-risk areas. Responders also collaborate closely with First Nations and individuals who have knowledge of coastal cultural sensitives or archaeological sites. Organizations with a mandate to protect, conserve and restore the coastal environment or that conduct field work in the area are also important contributors.
